Profile
People who come to theHarbour are male and female, married and single, with ages ranging from mid 30s to mid 50s; they work in a variety of occupations and come from a range of theological traditions. At the moment, there are about 8 of us that meet each time and we would welcome some more.
The group is lead by its “minders”, who are 2 married couples – a lecturer, an engineer, a counsellor and a chaplain. All four have been at various times leaders in Baptist, Anglican and/or Presbyterian churches but now prefer to meet outside formal denominational structures.
Each gathering is facilitated by one of the minders, with the expectation that others will participate. So no two meetings are alike – there may be some singing, there may be some teaching, we may or may not take communion. There is always plenty of discussion, to which people can contribute as much or as little as they wish.
History
The concept of theHarbour was first born in discussions amongst the minders (who knew each other) over the summer of 2008/2009. All four had a sense that this was to be the next step in their “church journey”, so after a few months of talking and planning, the first Harbour meeting took place on Sunday 3rd May 2009.
Since then, the group has met every second week, and has held one forum on “faith beyond church”. The group continues to meet, although we will be taking a break over the Christmas / New Year period.
